Ascot Round Up…
A cracking days racing at Ascot saw some markers laid down for the season ahead starting with Al Ferof, who despite concerns expressed by trainer Paul Nicholls on the morning of the race dismissed his rivals to land a second Amlin Chase under Ruby Walsh.
His main market rivals didn’t get going with Rajdhani Express and Wishfull Thinking failing to land a blow and Walsh steered Al Ferof to the front with ease and powered away to score from Somersby in second place. The King George will now be on his agenda of course and he has returned the track in very good nick indeed.
Faugheen was next up for Walsh who recorded a treble on the day as the unbeaten Willie Mullins charge cantered to the front and extended in grand style to land the Coral Hurdle and shorten up for the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham in March. Sent off at 1/4f supporters had rarely a moment of concern and he does look the real deal this season. As short now as 2/1 for the show piece next spring.
A competitive looking Handicap Chase at 3.15pm was turned into a rout by Croco Bay for Kielan Woods and Ben Case, cantering in to the lead some way out and returning at 8/1 from Lancetto in second. The handicapper bound to take action after a very impressive performance from the 7 year old.
