Boistron brilliant in Sagaro win
Tac De Boistron put in a fantastic performance to take the Group 3 Sagaro Stakes at Ascot, burning off his rivals with a sharp turn of foot at the end of the 2 mile contest under Frankie Dettori.
Last seen when taking the Prix Royal-Oak in very testing conditions at Longchamp in October, today’s better ground had no effect on the Marco Botti trained 7yo. He and his always exuberant partner Dettori were happy to track the generous pace set by Harris Tweed early and were still travelling very sweetly as the field turned for home.
The leader’s challenge soon came to an end as his early excursions caught up with him on the run in, leaving Oriental Fox and Earth Amber at the head of proceedings as he began to fall back through the field. Tac De Boistron was still hard on the steel in behind however and when Dettori pressed the ‘go’ button, the pair powered clear to score by 5 lengths.
“I was pleased with him. He did it well. I was a bit worried about him carrying a big penalty,” Botti said afterwards.
“It was his first race of the year. We didn’t want to give him a hard time, but he was very impressive the way he travelled through the race and he put the race to bed in a few strides.
“I don’t think we’d race on ground that was too quick. Today the ground had dried out a little bit. As long as he gets his toe in that is fine.
“We wouldn’t run him on firm ground.”
