Bolger rules with Pleascach
Jim Bolger and Kevin Manning will line up a tilt at the Irish Derby now with 1000 Guineas winner Pleascach who battled to a game success at The Curragh today holding off race favorite Found for Aidan O’Brian and Ryan Moore in a pulsating finish to the fillies classic.
Ridden to lead a furlong from home Kevin Manning sent her on and with the race set up perfectly by stable mates Steip Amach and Mainicin things went according to plan although Found came through from behind to mount a big challenge in the final burst to the line but Pleascach held on by half a length. Third place went to Devonshire with Jack Naylor just behind in fourth.
The master trainer has lots of options to consider with the Irish Debry likely to be the next port of call.
“She has a nice bit of toe and is basically not a miler. The Guineas is a bonus. It worked out well with a strong pace. She’s a relentless galloper with a turn of foot. She will go for the Irish Derby and then the Oaks after that. Entering her for the Irish Derby was not so much about what I thought of her as much as what I thought of the colts”
The winner is now a 7/1 chance for the Irish Derby whilst second placed Found is out to 8/1 for the Epsom Oaks.
