Cossack could yet join stellar line up at Punchestown

Reported today that Gordon Elliott’s stable star Don Cossack could still take his chance at Punchestown in the Grade 1 Bibby Financial Services Ireland Punchestown Gold Cup on Wednesday which would add another stellar name to what is set to be a star studded week at the venue.

Elliott told the Racing Post “Don Cossack is in very good form but we want to leave it until as late as we can before we have to make a call on him running on Wednesday”. That means we should know on Monday whether or not the devastatingly impressive Melling Chase winner at Aintree will take on the likes of Djakadam and Road To Riches in the Wednesday showpeice.

The week will start with a huge bang of course as Tuesday rolls in and on the card Willie Mullins will look forward to continuing his Festival dominance with Douvan. Don Poli, Champagne Fever and Wicklow Brave all at the top of the ante post market for their respective races.

As well as the Gold Cup on Wednesday you can add Shaneshill to the mix for team Mullins on the afternoon and then Thursday should see the aeroplane Un De Sceaux soaring plus a fascinating stamina test for Hurricane Fly and Jezki over 3m as they both shy away from a rematch with Faugheen and Artic Fire who will have a set to on Friday which will be highly anticipated.

It will be some week, recent rain making it straightforward NH hunt ground again for all concerned and fingers tightly crossed here that all line up and put on the show that we expect given the remarkable season so far.
