Curragh stages opener

The Curragh kicks off their flat season and the flat season proper in Ireland today with the Tote Irish Lincolnshire as the feature contest on a busy afternoon, just a stones throw from the RacingFM studios.

Luke Dempsey’s fantastic recent run may well continue as he takes the ride on last years winner Stuccador for Dermot Weld whilst it is another young pilot Tom “Socks” Madden who has the leg up on progressive Unsinkable for Ger Lyons.

Well documented this week that Joseph O’Brien is starting his season over hurdles at Limerick which means Ryan Moore and the other O’Brien siblings will be on duty at the Curragh this afternoon where the trainer will also let a few of his Classic contenders loose on the track for work after racing.

On the track he will rely on Jacobean for the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden and The Warrior has his sights lowered for the Big Bad Bob Maiden and it is hard to see past them starting the season with a bang for the trainer.

In the Lodge PArk, Group 3 contest Easter could be up against it against some tidy opposition including Odeliz, a narrow loser in the race last year and becoming a very solid travelling performer at the top level for UK raider Karl Burke.

Godolphin will be hopeful of Jim Bolger trained Tribal Beat in the opening maiden on the card and the same trainer is responsible for Focus On Venice in the Joanna Morgan Lifetime Achievement Handicap but that one will have to get past a well fancied Great Minds trained by the Stack’s who also run talented Alive Alive Oh this afternoons card.

Join Dean Ryan for all the action from The Curragh and elsewhere this afternoon on Race Day Live on RacingFM.
