Cursory Glance victorious in Moyglare
Roger Varian’s fantastic weekend continued with his second Group 1 victory in as many days in the Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh. Varian enjoyed Classic success at Doncaster yesterday with Kingston Hill’s victory in the St Leger and today it was Albany Stakes winner Cursory Glance who was the toast of the Varian stable with a brilliant performance under Andrea Atzeni.
Runner up to the impressive Tiggy Wiggy in the Lowther Stakes last time, Cursory Glance was sent off the 11/8 favourite for her first start over seven furlongs and her first in Group 1 company and put in an assured performance in the end having tracked the leaders early on.
Atzeni kicked his charge to the front at the furlong marker and despite being challenged late on by the fast finishing Jim Bolger inmate Lucida, had enough to come home by just a neck. Aidan O’Brien’s once raced Found put in a fabulous effort to finish third.
Varian said: “Andrea felt she was running a bit lazy, and when he gave her a squeeze she took off. Perhaps she ended up in front a bit too long but it was a funny race.
“She has tremendous natural speed, is very talented and gets this trip well.
“She is a Group One winner now and that will probably be it for this season. Hopefully she will have a massive year next year.
“It has been a magical weekend and has not really sunk in yet.
“Kingston Hill is fine this morning but he had a tough race yesterday. If he bounces back from the St Leger and is 100 per cent then he deserves to be in the Arc line-up.”
