Dedigout joy for Martin

Tony Martin trained Dedigout landed the Grade 2 Keelings Irish Strawberry Hurdle at Fairyhouse this afternoon under a typically patient Paul Carberry ride.

Thousand Stars, returning to the track from a break, lead them along but the stamina laden Dedigout stalked from behind and Carberry produced him at the last to run away with the race and make it a hat trick of Grade 2 wins this season.

“It hasn’t been easy with him. He looked a very promising horse when he won his novice at Punchestown but it just didn’t work out for him over fences. Last year he looked like a real World Hurdle horse but then chipped his knee here in December. He’s had a great year and we’ll lock him up now for next year.” said the winning trainer.

Martin was celebrating again in the following contest as the well supported I Shot The Sheriff ran away with a competitive looking handicap hurdle returning a 4/1f under Paul Townend. The winning jockey has been firing in the winners and this was a double on the day for him having landed the opening contest aboard Buiseness Sivola for Willie Mullins.
