Doncaster: Consistent Lord Brendy ready to score over fences

2.40 DONCASTER: BETDAQ £200 GAMES BONUS HANDICAP CHASE (3M)

On a card that includes a really good Novice Chase and a Listed Mares’ Chase, this is far from the best contest on the day but it is an extremely tight betting heat and should prove to be entertaining. Just seven will go to post and they are currently headed by one that should prove hard to beat in the form of the Robert Johnson trained Lord Brendy.

This 7yo is still a maiden over fences but has been knocking on door and this looks like a great chance for him to get his head in front.  He shaped well when stepped up to this type of trip in Novice company at Catterick last time and has been given a bit of a break from the handicapper who has dropped him 2lbs since his last handicap effort. He receives weight from all and should prove hard to better under Peter Buchanan.

The Ian Williams trained, Fredo has also dropped to a nice mark and, although he is another that doesn’t win too often, the booking of A.P McCoy is very interesting. Achimota went very close two starts ago at Uttoxeter but has since flopped at Leicester. He should improve for this step up in trip but is another that is hard to trust.

Castle Conflict may be the biggest danger to the selection having dropped to the same mark as his last victory at Bangor. He is another to have flopped last time but he jumped poorly on that occasion and the ground was probably a little too testing. He should be much improved for a return to decent ground.

Catch the race and all the other action from 12.30 with Rory Burke.
