Douvan new Supreme favourite after Punchestown romp
Willie Mullins’ Douvan has been shortened into 3/1 favourite for the Supreme Novices Hurdle after an effortless victory in the Grade 2 Moscow Flyer Hurdle at Punchestown. Highly touted by his stable, Douvan was an extremely impressive winner on his Irish debut at Gowran last time and was just as impressive on his first step into Graded company today under Ruby Walsh.
Walsh was always comfortable as he tracked the pace throughout. He eventually began to range up on the outside full of running and soon kicked clear. The 5yo son of Walk In The Park lived up to his Father’s name, easing clear to come home a 3 3/4 length winner having never come out of first gear.
“He did it very well, travelled well and jumped super. They were probably stayers he beat but it was a good performance,” said Walsh.
“It’s nice to ride horses like that. He was very professional in his jumping and quickened up when he had to. He’s a very good horse, I say he’d go any trip. He has a lot of natural ability and hopefully we’ll keep him going the right way and get him to Cheltenham in one piece.”
