Emperor rules over Chepstow
It was hard work but when the going gets tough then you can rely on a Venetia Williams trained horse to get going when it matters.
Emperor’s Choice was a remarkable winner having been headed before the last and rallying all the way up the grueling last furlong to land an unlikely last gasp victory on the line under Aidan Coleman
Venetia Williams’ yard have been having a superb season to date but her grand staying type had not been victorious since February so was due a return to the winners enclosure in perfect conditions for the seven year old sent off a well supported 9/1 at the off. Benvolio was just denied in second and Irish raider Glenquest will have delighted connections with a third place finish whilst 8/1 jf Monbeg Dude, a previous winner of the race, ran well in fourth.
Both winning trainer and jockey were delighted to land the highlight on the card and Coleman commented “Venetia is a world class trainer and deserves better horses…”
Williams herself was surprised but elated. “He’s a slow learner and took a while to get into gear, I never dreamed he’d be quick enough to make the running. We had a box today with all my owners and we were screaming!”
Also on the card there was a memorable treble for jockey Sean Bowen, two for trainer Peter Bowen and one for Alan Jones on a day he will not forget. Awaywiththegreys 8/1, Quincy de Pictons 20/1 and completed by the finale winner Ghost River at 4/1.
