Fahey Lucky in Cambrigeshire
Saturday big handicaps are like shelling peas for trainer Richard Fahey who was celebrating again in the Betfred Cambridgeshire at Newmarket in tight finish to the 34 runner contest as jockey Adam Beschizza did just enough aboard Third Time Lucky to scramble home from Master The World.
Master The World hit the front at the 2f pole but was reeled in by Third Time Lucky at the line with Examiner third and Man Of Harlech back in fourth. Layers paying extra places will be hit by the fifth place finish of well backed fav Portage who went off at 9/2 and GM Hopkins returning to better form in 6th place at the line.
Irish runner Brendan Bracken unseated rider Colin Keane at the stalls.
Fahey continues to dominate the big field handicaps following Silver and Gold Cup success at Ayr last weekend and his season rolls on in style.
Winning jockey Beschizza – “We went a good gallop, I set a nice gallop the whole way, Silvestre came upsides me and went a good length up, but I thought he’d gone fairly soon and my fellow is a tough, game sort. I just had to switch to my right, he changed his legs and went on. He’s only small, but he’s very honest. He goes on all sorts of ground, today was probably on the quick side of good but he’s a relentless galloper. That was the only issue, just seeing out the mile and one, that was the only factor.
As a jockey you always know in the back of my mind whether you’ve got it, I thought I just had by a fraction.”
