Found and Gleneagles skip Epsom

Aidan O’Brien will leave two of his stars on the subs bench for Epsom this coming weekend as Found and Gleneagles will head straight to Royal Ascot rather than tackle the Derby or Oaks as had been muted over the last couple of weeks.

Found was a possible for the Derby, but the likely market leader for an Oaks bid and will now go straight to Ascot with the Coronation Stakes on the agenda whilst leading miler this season Gleneagles will wait for the St James’s Palace Stakes at the Royal Meeting rather than tackle the colts in the Derby at a trip considered out of his stamina range for now.

Instead O’Brien will bid for Investec Derby honours with trial winners at Chester and Lingfield, Hans Holbein and Kilimanjaro with recent runner up in the Gallinule Stakes, Giovanni Cannaletto a third string to his bow.

For the Oaks the master of Ballydoyle looks set to saddle four possible runners with Diamondsandrubies, Together Forever and Qualify set for action and a possible fourth runner in Wedding Vow engaged still in the Fillies showpiece.

No more than 15 horses will line up for the Derby this year as Success Days and Golden Horn were confirmed to be supplemented for £75,000 each and it was confirmed that Sumbal was not supplemented at the final stage.
