Fran Berry dominates at The Curragh

Fran Berry had a day to remember at the Curragh this afternoon with Group success aboard Jessica Harrington’s Bocca Bacciata taking the Group 3 Dance Design Fillies Stakes and then aboard Hint Of A Tint who ran out a ready winner of the Tote Irish Cambridgeshire for trainer David Wachman.

Bocca Bacciata bounced right back to her best under Berry to swoop out wide after travelling well and storm clear in the Group 3. Jessica Harrington was full of praise. “I’m delighted to have her back as we were having a little bit of a difficult summer with her. Fran said she felt like she did in Navan today. She likes that ground. I haven’t made any plans and it’s all about the ground. She’s in the Blandford Stakes here and may come back if the ground is okay but wouldn’t if there was any mention of firm.

“The mile-and-a-quarter seems to suit here but towards the end of the year she may go up to a mile-and-a-half as she keeps galloping.”

Wachman’s Hint Of A Tint was returned from a lay off to win the Topaz Mile at Galway and whilst that was a fine training feat it got even more impressive as the big handicap on the card went their way under Berry who once again gave a text book ride to the winner.

Portage was sent off a well supported favourite but had to settle for second best and it was Bold Thady Quill in third with Champagne or Water back in fourth spot.

Over at Cork bad news for Davy Russell who has suffered a fractured left forearm in an incident before his intended mount for the Family Day Out Maiden Hurdle was sent to out on to the track. He will face a spell on the sidelines now.
