Friday’s action: Ainippe’s unbeaten record on the line in Childers

Ger Lyons’ Ainippe will put her unbeaten record on the line in today’s Group 2 Childers Stakes at Doncaster. The Captain Rio 2yo put the highly touted The Great War to the sword in the Listed Curragh Stakes last time and takes her first foray into Group company under Andrea Atzeni. Atzeni continues his slow introduction into his upcoming job as retained rider for Qatar Racing on Lyon’s charge, just one day before he may, or may not, have a crack at winning his first Classic on Kingston Hill in the St Leger.

Qatar Racing snapped up Ainippe after her convincing 3 and 3/4 length debut victory at Naas back in July and will also be represented in the 5 furlong contest by Mind Of Madness who will be looking to follow up a Listed success of his own at York last time.

Ainippe is the current 3/1 favourite, with Charlie Hills’ Molecomb winner Cotai Glory, who will be ridden by George Baker, next best in the market at 6/1. The consistent, if a little frustrating, Ahlan Emarati (15/2) should be on the premises, while Moonraker, 2nd to Mind Of Madness at York, is surprisingly as low as 8/1.

Bronze Maquette looks like a decent each way pick in an attempt to complete a treble but one at a huge price that may be worth a few pennies is Ann Duffield’s twice raced George Dryden. The Zebedee colt went straight into my tracker as a possible Group class horse when winning with style on debut at Pontefract but slightly disappointed at Nottingham next time where he did too much from the front. He steps down in trip today and if getting a strong pace could cause an upset at a price of 33/1.
