Friday’s All-Weather selections – with Kevin Walsh
7.15 WOLVERHAMPTON: DAILY ENHANCED “MAGIC MULTIPLES” AT UNIBET HANDICAP (5f20y)
Invincible Ridge looks like the one to be on here. Eric Alston’s 7yo has some cracking recent form around here under his belt of late and has been going close in far better races than this winnable contest. He was beaten just over four lengths by the now 109 rated Pretend over six furlongs last time and that is by far the best form on offer.
Searchlight finished ahead of Random Success at Lingfield last time but with a 6lb swing in the weights, that form should be overturned and she looks like the main danger to the selection. Royal Birth was a winner on turf when last seen and also has a win on the all-weather to his name, whilst Temple Road could be one for the e/w backers.
7.35 DUNDALK: CHAMPIONS RESTAURANT AT DUNDALK STADIUM HANDICAP (1m)
This could boil down to a battle between last time winners, County Wexford and Roter Baron. The former showed great character to get up late on his all-weather debut last time over course and distance but a 6lb hike may be a little harsh. The latter also showed great heart in holding on over course and distance two weeks ago and he may be the one to be on receiving nearly a stone from his main rival.
Coach Bombay had the likes of Doonard Prince, Chatterton and Forbidden City behind him last time and he should be able to confirm that form under near identical conditions. My Manekineko is another to consider having dropped to a workable mark again and with Pat Smullen an interesting jockey booking.
8.15 WOLVERHAMPTON: BET IN PLAY AT CORAL HANDICAP (1m1f103y)
Not the greatest race you will ever see, with plenty having to improve a lot to figure. Happy Jack ran his best race so far over course and distance last time and sports new headgear tonight, with blinkers taking over from the hood and cheek-pieces. These will have to have a dramatic effect for him to get involved, however and he is definitely worth taking on at the prices.
I am going to do just that with the Nikki Evans trained Thirtypointstothree. The 4yo brings the most consistent form into the race and, despite being a 16 race maiden, this could be his best opportunity to date to get off the mark. He has been running well around this track over the winter, remains on a decent mark and Aaron Jones’ 7lb claim is a big help.
Ferdy is interesting if fit and ready to go after a break. Paul Green’s charge has some decent form on the turf but has yet to make his mark on the all-weather surface, whilst Jessy Mae and handicap debutante, Sarafina are others to consider.
1pt Win – Invincible Ridge, 7.15 Wolverhampton @ 11/2
1pt Win – Roter Baron, 7.35 Dundalk @ 7/1
1pt Win – Thirtypointstothree, 8.15 Wolverhampton @ 4/1
