Gabrial comes off best in the Plate
Owner Dr. Marwan Koukash enjoyed a one, two in the valuable Northumberland Plate at Newcastle, with 4/1 favourite Angel Gabrial getting the better of the Marco Botti trained Suegioo.
The pair had previously clashed in the Chester Cup in May, where Suegioo came out on top but the Richard Fahey trained Angel Gabrial was easily able to reverse the form here, making a move at the 2 pole under George Chaloner and despite hanging slightly to his right, had enough in the tank to roll home a 3 1/2 length winner.
Suegioo had been waited with by Martin Harley and having gotten a nice break after entering the home straight, stayed on nicely to give his owner a one, two. David O’Meara’s Repeater finished third, with Noble Silk back in fourth.
Winning jockey Chaloner said : “It’s been an unbelievable couple of weeks.
“He’s given me a peach of a ride round there. I just tried to let him settle and keep him happy. I couldn’t have wished for it to have gone any better.
“We didn’t want to get killed early on, but he’s travelled well and picked up lovely.”
Trainer Fahey added: “I’m absolutely delighted – we’re having a fantastic time at the moment.
“It’s one of them races you want to put on your CV and it was never in doubt.
“He’s pretty talented and he does pick up. It looks like he’s just bitten his tongue so we’ll get him away now.”
