Gabriel is the Angel in the Lincoln

It was another Lincoln success for Richard Fahey and Dr Marwan Koukash as the first big race of the new flat season went to Gabriel under jockey Tony Hamilton at Doncaster this afternoon.

The 6 year old had signed off last season with a decent win at Leicester and remarkably today was only the second time regular Fahey pilot Tony Hamilton had ridden the charge in his 33 starts to date. Weak in the market up to post time but that didn’t effect his performance and it was a strong run to the line that saw him fend off David O’Meara’s Mondialiste with Mooharib and What About Carlo further back in third and fourth places respectively.

Richard Fahey said after winning the race for the second time with Dr Koukash horses “It was very tight in there, and I didn’t think he was getting a run, but it’s the first time I’ve seen him pin his ears back and battle to the line.”

The owner who treats handicaps as cup finals with his string was clearly delighted and will aim the winner at his local track next time out. “Now we have done it twice ( win the Lincoln ). He’ll go for the Huxley Stakes at Chester next.”

The Spring Mile went the way of Alan King trained Chatez who mowed down his rivals with a change of gear and ran out a comfortable winner under Fergus Sweeney whilst the opener on the card saw a debut victory for Ravenhoe in the Brocklesby for Mark Johnston.
