It’s a Golden Eclipse at Sandown
Another stunning display from John Gosden’s Golden Horn saw the three year old beat his elders in the feature Coral Eclipse at Sandown under a dictated ride from the front by Frankie Dettori aboard the 4/9f.
The Grey Gatsby charged at the favourite in the home straight and may have just headed Golden Horn as the jockeys got their charges into full steam but Golden Horn found plenty at the finish to romp home 3 and 1/2 lengths to the good.
In third and a fair distance back was John Gosden’s second runner in the five runner field Western Hymn whilst Cougar Mountain finished fourth and Tullius back in fifth place.
Frankie Dettori celebrated with the flying dismount to a pack welcoming crowd and was ecstatic with his mounts performance.
“I was in front and Jamie was very clever and attacked me early. He eyeballed me and this horse showed what a true champion he is. He showed a lot of guts to get the win in the end.”
Owner Anthony Oppenheimer “I was always worried with The Grey Gatsby there and then suddenly this horse found another gear and just took off. Frankie says we haven’t got to the bottom of him yet, so we shall see. It’s very exciting, very exciting indeed.
On possible next targets with the Arc in consideration Oppenheimer was unclear. “I think the horse will tell us and John Gosden. We don’t know how much it’s taking out of him. It seems as though he didn’t have too hard a race, although it looked hard.”
