Granite’s Grade One
Henry De Bromhead added his name to a long list of Irish trainers in the winners’ enclosure at Aintree this week as 9-2 shot Sizing Granite took the Maghull Novices’ Chase under Jonathan Burke.
Favourite Gods Own stuck on well to take second having never really travelled throughout the race but he never looked like reeling in the leader who had matters under control well before the last.
De Bromhead, who won the race with Special Tiara two years ago, said: “He jumped brilliantly. He’s always been a gorgeous horse. Alan and Ann Potts have been really patient with him and given him time but he’s getting better and better. “He’s massive and was very immature and I hope he’s going to keep improving. It’s very unlikely that he’ll go to Punchestown but he’s very exciting for next year.”
On winning jockey Burke, De Bromhead said: “He’s a very accomplished rider for one of his age. He gets better all the time and he’s a great man to have on your team.”
