Hannon lit up by Illuminate

Richard Hannon was delighted once again by stable star Illuminate who got up by the narrowest of margins to land the Group 2 Duchess of Cambridge Stakes ( formerly the Cherry Hinton ) on day 2 of the July meeting at Newmarket.

Rah Rah a big each way mover in the market took them along but was always tracked by Richard Hughes on Illuminate and the pair came through to take it up in the final furlong. It looked a winning move but challenges came from Besharah and Blue Bayou who finished in that order behind Hannon’s star with only a small margin seperating the trio at the line.

Easton Angel was sent off 7/4jf but didn’t go through with a mid race move and was eventually placed 4th after stewards looked at some interferance behind the front three who were unaffected in the enquiry.

“I thought she was going to go on and win by a length but the other filly has stayed on. She’s a pleasure to deal with and can do the whole lot, the Cheveley Park and things like that. She’s a dreamboat and we will see plenty more of her.”
