Hughie’s Edinburgh Treble
Hughie Morrison secured his third Duke Of Edinburgh Handicap at Royal Ascot thanks to 6-1 joint-favourite Arab Dawn on Friday
That was Morrison’s seventh Royal Ascot victory in total with jockey Richard Hughes bringing up a 34-1 double on the day at his final Royal meeting before retiring from the saddle.
Morrison, who had previously taken the race with Waverley in 2003 and Cill Rialaig in 2010, said: “We don’t spend hundreds of thousands on horses so somewhere like this we can only win handicaps. And I have a great group of owners who give me support to do that.
“This horse has disappointed us a few times. We had some offers for him but credit to the owners they took my advice to stick with him and now they have the reward. There are plans and plans and it’s great when they come off. If you have a Listed level horse, then you go for a handicap here.”
