Johnston and SDS fire up the Knavesmire

A remarkable day for trainer Mark Johnston at York this afternoon saw him land four winners on the card, all ridden by Silvestre De Sousa and an accumulator that would have paid handsomely, well over 7000/1 had you included his winner at Newmarket to go with them!

On a track that the trainer had not been lucky at in any way with runners over the past five seasons it could be said the handler was due a big day and it started with Delizia at 11/2, she won well in the Listed event and then two handicaps were turned into Johnston and SDS benefits as Notarised found plenty to score at 9/1 and the tough Indescribable ground out a win at 12/1 on the famous Knavesmire.

The final race of the day was arguably the trainers best chance going into the meeting as Yorkidding was sent off a well fancied 5/2f and she did not disappoint the army of supporters who banked on the trick being repeated and the four timer was never in doubt as she won with ease.

Mark Johnston’s wife was on hand and told the press. “That’s so wonderful as we were desperate for her to win for Paul York, who is a new owner for the yard. After all the other winners we were worried she would be the only one who didn’t win.”

The day included a win for Sir Michael Stoute amongst all the Johnston success as his stayer Snow Sky ( 5/2 ) proved just too strong under a Ryan Moore drive to take the Betway Yorkshire Cup denying Brown Panther in second place. Both will emerge with huge credit and can expect more tough battles this term in the top stayers events.
