Kilimanjaro takes Derby Trial

Another Derby trial success in the run up to the Epsom Classic went the way of Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore as 5/1 Kilimanjaro stayed on best at Lingfield to land the Derby Trial Stakes in dour fashion.

All the talk before the contest was about the unbeaten Christophermarlowe who seemed to find the underfoot conditions against him finishing back in third place a one paced 2/5f with long time pace setter Magic Dancer hanging on to seconde place at the line.
The winning rider Ryan Moore was encouraged by the performance. “He’s got a very nice attitude and I suppose he’s in the Derby picture now. He’s a trier and he’s done it nicely and we just took our time. He had a lot to do turning for home, but picked up and he was a bit idle when he got to the front.”

John Gosden was quick to blame the ground for the run of the favourite. “He was never going on the ground. As he’s by Tapit he wants it fast and the ground was too dead for him today.”

Kilimanjaro now in the Derby betting at a best price 33/1 with the layers.
