Kodi Bear is best at Goodwood
Clive Cox trained Kodi Bear was impressive this afternoon under Gerald Mosse to land the feature on the Goodwood card with an authorative display in the Doom Bar Celebration Mile.
Sent off an odds on favourite at 4/5 and hitting the front at the two furlong pole Mosse continued to press the button and Kodi Bear was a few lengths to the good at the finish from Gabriel who picked up more prize money for Richard Fahey.
A winner at Salisbury last time out under Mosse when given an unothordox ride to slam rivals in preparation for this it was more straightforward this time with Mosse letting his mount race with his rivals much earlier in the contest and Clive Cox’s charge is on a nice upward curve.
KODI BEAR followed up his Salisbury success with a clear-cut defeat of Gabrial, getting well on top inside the final furlong under Gerald Mosse to boost his Group 1 aspirations for later in the year.
Mosse said afterward “He’s not there yet but I think he’s pretty close to Group 1 class. He’s a lovely horse. He loved the ground and the distance was perfect. He was cruising and I had to take it up too soon which is not my style but he’s too good a horse.”
Described as the best he has trained Clive Cox was clearly thrilled with his horse. “I’m really proud to have a horse of this quality on our hands. The way he’s moving in the right direction shows us what we’ve thought all along.
He’s always had a lot of class, but he’s got an amazing temperament and he’s only just learning the job. The QEII is the logical step for him and he’s had a hard enough race today.”
