Market Rasen: Summer Hurdle Preview

16 Runners go to post for the Betfred Mobile Summer Hurdle over 2m and 1f. The 147 rated Montbazon heads the weights for Alan King and Aidan Coleman. A high class horse who was fourth in the 2012 Supreme Novice Hurdle, he was third in the County hurdle and the form couldn’t have worked out better. He’s 7lb higher, the return to good ground should suit and he’s the class act of the race.

There is 10 last time out winners in the field and last year’s winning trainer John Ferguson is double handed with Purple Bay and Honour System. The former has finished second on his last three starts and has gone up in the weights, while the latter makes a step up in class.

Nicky Henderson is also double handed in the race with Laudatory who is 10lb higher when winning well at Newton Abbbot and Springinherstep who has ground to make up on Roman Flight and Purple Bay, with Charlie Longsdon running the improving Pure Style who takes a step up in class.

The favourite Slim Pickens is a dark horse who could be well in off a mark of 130. He won easily on his last two starts but the quality of what he beat is questionable. Charlie Brooks runs his five year old Max Ward who could still be well handicapped off 134 having won going away at Aintree of 10lb lower. He beat some in form rivals that day and he still remains unexposed.
