Moore on duty at Dundalk
There is a good quality mid week card at Dundalk with seven races down for decision. The all weather action gets under way 6:05 and finishes up at 9:05, the main attraction on the card may well be the presence of Ryan Moore who is set to partner the Aidan O’Brien trained War Envoy in the feature event.
The action gets under way at 6:05 with an Apprentice Handicap run over the minimum distance of 5f. There is a select field of eight declared her. Almadaa has won on his last two starts and had many of his opponents in arrears and could well be capable of recording the hat trick here. David Marnane has wisely called upon the services of Sean Corby who has started his career brightly and would be a massive addition in a race of this nature. No Fear runs here under a five pound penalty having scored recently at Dundalk and looks to have a decent chance of this mark and has won two of his last three starts. Tom Madden a rider with plenty of experience in the pony fields and on the racecourse in recent seasons has been booked by Willie McCreery.
The 6:35 is a handicap over 6f for horses rated 70 or less and there are eleven runners declared here. Shinyhappyjohn could well be well in having scored here on his last start and has been fairly treated by the handicapper. The one draw back may well be that he has been drawn in stall eight which may make like difficult for his rider Donnacha O’ Brien to slot in and get a bit of cover. The top weight Mystical Past has won here recently and is well drawn. The Blinkered filly has been known for her being unruly in the gates but has been drawn in stall one and expect Christopher Geoghegan to make plenty of use of her from that draw.
The 7:05 is the highlight of the evenings racing with the Patton Stakes being a listed contest over 7f. War Envoy makes his seasonal reappearance here having taken part in some of the worlds leading two year old contests last season. Having run at Santa Anita and Longchamp in high class events on his last two starts he takes a drop in class here and should be hard to beat especially with Ryan Moore coming over to ride. Rapid Applause finished last season rated just one pound less than the selection and he also performed admirably well at the highest level. From a yard that has made a strong start to the season he can be expected to perform well.
The 7:35 is a Maiden race run over 1m. Jim Bolger could well be on the score sheet here with his So Focussed who ran with real credit on her debut. This those not look a particularly strong contest and Jim Bolger looks to have found an excellent opportunity for this daughter of Intense Focus to get off the mark. Nabeel makes his Irish debut for Tom McCourt and could have a decent chance having gained a mark of 75 when trained by Saeed Bin Suroor.
The 8:35 is a Handicap over 1m 4f and this looks to be quite a decent event. Moonmeister looks to have a decent chance here having shown good previous course form and Luke Dempsey takes off a very valuable five pounds and his trainer excels with horses of this nature. Shake The Bucket has not won since June but is a real talented sort who loves Dundalk and could well sneak a place for Tom Madden.
