Moore is the main man at Ballydoyle
News that had perhaps been widely expected was finally announced this evening as Ryan Moore was confirmed as the main jockey to the Ballydoyle team and trainer Aidan O’Brien this season.
The trainer was at Tipperary today and confirmed “Ryan will be riding our main horses this year and Joseph will be riding other horses when the weights allow him to. Seamie Heffernan and Colm O’Donoghue will also be involved as in the past.
O’Brien also suggested that if he want’s to then his son, Joseph, would continue to ride over hurdles as he has been doing recently.
The move will be seen as a direct reaction perhaps to Joseph’s delayed return to riding on the flat this season due to managing his weight although he has since returned to the flat sphere and was quoted on RacingFM in the past couple of weeks as “winning” in relation to the work he has been putting in to get back on track.
It will not be a dramatic change of circumstances for any of the team involved with Ryan and Joseph so often engaged on the big horses for team Ballydoyle over recent seasons and with such a strong team often the second and third strings prove as strong as the perceived stable pick. Ryan Moore will start off in the new role at Leopardstown on Sunday to ride ante post Derby favourite John F Kennedy in the well regarded trail for the Epsom showpiece, the Ballysax Stakes.
