Order Of St George Classy In St Leger
Order Of St George capped another huge day for Aidan O’Brien by slamming rivals in the Palmerstown House Estate Irish St Leger at the Curragh under Joseph O’Brien to record a stunning 11 length victory in the feature on the second day of Irish Champions Weekend.
Sad news from the contest was the loss of Brown Panther who, back to scene of last years success, was pulled up during the race and suffered a fatal injury.
The rest of the field didn’t get a look in as Joseph O’Brien waiting as long as he could to hit the front but the three year old stamped his class at the 2f pole and stormed away. Agent Murphy won the battle for second with Wicklow Brave under jumps jockey Paul Townend a creditable third and Second Step losing out for a place in fourth.
O’Brien again greeted by the press huddle for more views on another super winner on the day.
“I didn’t say anything to Joseph but they went hard up front and he put him asleep. He sneaked through lovely and is a very good stayer. He got the trip really well and travelled very strongly. When Joseph said go he quickened up very well. It’s unusual for a horse that stays that well to have that kind of class. He’s a very exciting horse.”
