Queen could send Estimate to Melbourne
The Queen could be set to send former Ascot Gold Cup winner Estimate to Melbourne to contest the race that stops a nation on November 4th.
Estimate, who finished second in this years renewal of the Ascot showpiece behind Aidan O’Brien’s Leading Light would be the Queen’s second runner in the Melbourne Cup after Arabian Story finished sixth in 1997 for Frankie Dettori and Lord Huntingdon.
Red Cadeaux was also confirmed on target for another trip down under by trainer Ed Dunlop who was happy with the return recently at Newbury under regular rider Gerald Mosse. The Irish could be represented by Dermot Weld with Pale Mimosa and Johnny Murtagh who is making a great start to his training career and has options with recent Ebor winner Mutual Regard along with Royal Diamond the 2012 Irish St Leger winner.
A horse we have heard a lot about at RacingFM thanks to regular updates from Matt Hill of Sky Australia is The Offer and the five year old gelding by Montjeu is trained by powerhouse Aussie handler Gai Waterhouse now following 6 runs for Aidan O’Brien in Ireland. A winner of three starts from four for Waterhouse and progressing from G3 to G1 company with the minimum of fuss The Offer is at the top of the antepost market.
