Riverside City wins Ulster National
It was a big day for Gordon Elliott and Davy Condon as they landed the Ulster National at Downpatrick with the fast finishing Riverside City for owner JP McManus at 9/1.
Hunted out the back over the marathon trip by Condon it was all left to a big jump at the last and a rattle up the home straight as they reeled in leader Man With Van to record a narrow success. It was the first winner for the owner for jockey Condon.
“That’s my first for JP, I had plenty left and he dug deep, a fun horse for the summer now.”
Trainer and jockey were also on the board with Knights Parade earlier on the card and in similar fashion it was a flashing home ride that landed the spoils in the 2.40pm returning a well backed 11/10f.
Away from Ireland Nigel Hawke’s yard remain in cracking form landing an across the card double with Mister Wiseman at Market Rasen under Tom Scudamore whilst David Crosse steered home Pagham Belle to win easily in the 2.50 at Wincanton.
