Road To Riches to head straight to Cheltenham
Current Gold Cup second favourite, Road To Riches is set to head straight to Cheltenham after trainer Noel Meade confirmed he would like to keep his charge fresh for the Cheltenham showpiece. The leading Irish hope has had a fantastic season so far, trouncing the field in the Galway Plate before adding Grade 1 victories in the JNwine.com Champion Chase and more recently the Lexus Chase.
It had been thought that the 8yo would look to continue his winning run in the Irish Hennessy next month, but Meade is happy to give his star turn a break before heading to the festival in March.
“He’s going straight to Cheltenham. He’s going to have an easy January and we’ll start building him up again,” Meade said on At The Races.
“If I had to train him for the Hennessy, I’d have had to train him for the whole month of January. Now I’m able to give him a break and give him a little time off.
“That’s what I did before the Plate, before Down Royal and before the Lexus so I may as well do it again.
“He’s good and came out of the race great.”
8/1 shot, Road To Riches has only Silviniaco Conti (11/4) ahead of him in the Gold Cup market.
