Sea The Moon Impressive In German Derby
Sea The Moon landed the German Derby in devastating style at Hamburg this afternoon under jockey Christophe Soumillon for trainer Markus Klug.
Ridden wide into the straight by his pilot the Sea The Stars colt powered all the way along the stands rail to win as he liked and maintain an unbeaten run. A move that caught many flat footed, including the camera man Soumillon sent his mount over from the front of the pack to the far rail away from the opposition and by the line was an eased up winner.
It was the first time in the saddle for Soumillon who replaced regular rider Andreas Helfenbein who had been on for the recent victories and he will have not ridden an easier Group 1 winner in his career.
Prior to the race trainer Markus Klug has suggested they would “take in the Grosser Preis von Baden and then possibly the Arc” and bookmakers were quick to quote the winner for the Longchamp show-piece which were quickly snapped up and best price now in the aftermath is 9/1 with Paddy Power and William Hill.
The raiders from Aidan O’Brien and Charlie Appleby, Geoffrey Chaucer and Pinzolo were never in the hunt but that comment applies to the whole field who lined up at the track. The places were filled by Lucky Lion and Open Your Heart at 7/1 and 66/1 respectively. The winning margin though was an eased down 11 lengths and the winner has laid down a serious marker for the rest of the year.
