Territories pounces in France
Territories produced a super turn of foot to win the Prix Jean Prat in France this afternoon at Chantilly for Godolphin, Andre Fabre and Mickael Barzalona.
Beaten at Newmarket in the 2000 Guineas by Gleneagles and then a stone bruise ruled the three year old out of Royal Ascot it was a real boost for connections as he strode all the way to the line to record a Group 1 success this afternoon.
Charlie Hill’s Dutch Connection was sent for home at the 2f pole and looked commanding from the front but it was Barzalona who timed his run to perfection on the outside to wrap it up once claiming the leader and win well.
Barzalona was pleased. “He showed he was a good horse last year and after his runs in the Prix de Fontainebleau and the 2,000 Guineas he was entitled to be a solid favourite. Some strong English horses went pretty quickly up front but I always had a lot of confidence in my horse and he was well on top at the end.”
Charlie Hills had no complaints after a big run from his Royal Ascot hero Dutch Connection. “I am delighted because he has only been beaten by a very good horse and of course ours is a good horse too. Dutch Connection got the mile well, which gives us lots of options and he is only going to get better with age as he is a big, strapping horse. He is in at Goodwood, but I don’t want to overrace him too much this year.”
