Tiara is Special for De Bromhead
Special Tiara took the Grade 1 AP McCoy Celebration Chase at Sandown in grand style for trainer Henry De Bromhead and jockey Noel Fehily with a leap at the last that might have cleared two fences before careering up the straight to win by six lengths.
Sprinter Sacre took second place with Mr Mole and AP McCoy back in third place but neither landing a blow on Special Tiara who had things mostly to himself at the front end once Mr Mole weakened with a few left to jump.
“I’m absolutely delighted with that. He did it nicely and it was a super ride from Noel Fehily. I’m surprised how easy he was going coming to the Pond Fence – it looked like he was full of running. That’ll be it for the season now and he’ll spend the summer out in the field.” Henry De Bromhead.
Nicky Henderson resisted calls to retire Sprinter Sacre and is hopeful he may have more to offer again after a good performance here in second place.
“I have to be pleased with that as he looked fantastic and he ran his race. It was an awful shame they watered the course. I think we had reason to come here to see how he did in his next race. I don’t see any reason to stop and we can build on that.”
