Tiggy Wiggy brilliant in Cheveley Park
There may not be much of her but anything that Tiggy Wiggy lacks in stature, she more than makes up for in class. This was evident again today as the brilliant filly routed her rivals in the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket under a confident front running ride from Richard Hughes.
Today’s victory brought the season tally to six wins from eight starts and Richard Hannon’s classy daughter of Kodiac may not be finished yet if today’s performance is anything to go by. A n all the way winner of the Lowther Stakes last time, Tiggy Wiggy was again fired to the head of affairs by Hughes from the off.
The pair, again, would not see another rival, as Hughes set a moderate pace before kicking for home 2 furlongs out. Tiggy Wiggy again showed a blistering turn of foot as she put the race to bed. Anthem Alexander, who had beaten the winner at Royal Ascot, finished second, with French raider High Celebrity back in third.
Hughes said: “She is brilliant. What she did today was she settled really well and we got a very soft lead. I didn’t increase the pace until before the two pole and I said to myself that it will take a good one to beat her when a I kick her in the belly.
“She was very good before the start and the more we keep the lid on, the better she is when the gates open. She has done this quite easily and she does more than that at home some mornings – trust me!”
Hannon added: “We are delighted, she is a very good filly. This is proof to everyone that you can go out and buy a horse for say £40,000 and end up with a top class one.”
