Today’s Action: Vuvuzela to make a big noise at Catterick

3.10 CATTERICK: YORKSHIRE-OUTDOORS.CO.UK ADVENTURE ACTIVITIES HANDICAP HURDLE (2M3F)

The ground continues to dry out so hopefully all nine runners will go to post for this Class 4 contest. Sue Smith’s Emral Silk currently heads the market and the lightly raced 7yo should have decent claims after a fine effort on testing ground over 2 miles at Haydock last time. His sole career victory came in a Novice contest over course and distance last season, so he obviously likes it around here. The combination of today’s better ground and this step up in trip should also bring about more improvement.

Recent course and distance winner Snowed In is obviously another big player for Barbara Butterworth. The 6yo has had a busy time of it this season but finally got back to winning ways last week with an extremely impressive performance. He gets in today under a 7lb penalty and if putting in a similar effort that may not be enough to stop him doubling up.

Rebecca Menzies has her small stable in blistering form at the moment, so it may be worth taking these two on with the young trainer’s Vuvuzela. The 9yo may have had his one and only start over fences at this track last time. He jumped dreadfully but somehow managed to not finish too far behind an impressive winner.

That goes to show that he is in fine form with himself and he would surely have gone close two starts ago over timber at Sedgefield but for stumbling on landing two from home. You take a chance on his jumping having improved but the form of the stable cannot be ignored and at the prices he is worth a go.

Of the rest, the unexposed Fearless Tunes makes his handicap debut for Donald McCain and should be feared, whilst Minella Hero also comes from an in form yard and receives weight from all.
