Today’s action: Windsor Preview
5.40 – 188BET APPRENTICE HANDICAP
Gracie’s Games is obviously the first port of call in the opener for John Spearing and Willie Twiston-Davies. The 8yo finally got back to winning ways after over two years of trying at Ffos Las last Tuesday and if none the worse for that effort, could prove hard to beat under a 6lb penalty. In truth that was a pretty poor race and it is hard to trust one that doesn’t win that often. It may pay to take her on and you could do worse than taking a chance on the top weight RAY OF JOY. This 8yo, an 85 rated mare in her prime, is a consistent performer and remains on a decent mark of 70 despite only going down by 1/2 length at Yarmouth. At a price of 5/1, she looks like a good e/w shot to nothing.
6.10 – 188BET MAIDEN STAKES
Never easy to get involved in Maidens of this type, so a market check, as always, is a must. Of those with form, Richard Hannon’s STEAL THE SCENE can count himself unlucky not to have scored on his debut at Newmarket and is the one to beat with that experience behind him. He found himself tight for room on the run in that day but stayed on nicely in what looked a stronger race than this. Red Tycoon was just a nose behind the selection at Newmarket and should have more to come, whilst Ryan Moore is an interesting booking on Michael Bell’s newcomer, Malvia.
6.40 – RACEBETS.COM NOW BEST ODDS GUARANTEED MAIDEN STAKES
A few of these are becoming very frustrating to say the least, with the likely favourite Newton’s Law a prime example with form figures of 223233. That is very worrying and he is one you would have to take on at the prices. My Inspiration and ETERNITYS GATE are the only two candidates to do so with and the latter it is who gets the vote with Peter Chapple-Hyam’s charges’ best performance to date having come on softer ground at Pontefract on debut.
7.10 – GHOST NURSERY HANDICAP
TAPER TANTRUM will prove very hard to beat in this his handicap debut. Michael Bell’s charge was very impressive in breaking his maiden tag at Sandown last time and with Ryan Moore again in the saddle, the son of Azamour is the one they will have to catch if he employs his front running tactics again. Divine Law improved for ease in the ground last time and is the main danger, whilst the consistent Popeswood is also considered.
7.40 – 188BET CASINO HANDICAP
Godolphin’s recent French import L’orfeo is an intriguing runner in this 10 furlong handicap. The 4yo brings some nice form over from France with him and should be suited by today’s ground conditions. The 338 day absence is a worry however and a safer bet could well be Richard Hannon’s 3yo HYMENAIOS. The Danehill Dancer colt put in a career best effort when a close third at Epsom two starts ago over this trip, before not getting home over 1m 4f last time at Salisbury. He will be much more at home now dropped in trip again and the fact that his only victory came on soft ground is another obvious plus.
8.10 – 188BET GREAT IN PLAY HANDICAP
Interesting handicap to end the card and Dream Impossible will rightly be sent off a warm favourite for the 1 mile contest. Peter Makin’s charge was beaten just a neck on her last start over this evening’s course and distance and a similar effort to that might just suffice. Saying that though, Mick Channon’s HEARTSTRINGS was just 3 1/2 lengths behind her on that occasion and given that she has a 5lb swing in the weights here, with Charlie Bishop taking off a further 3lb, she might just be nicely treated to reverse the form at a generous price. Top weight Bayleyf is another at a big price that is worth consideration now down to a career low mark of 65, although he will find it tough to give weight away to the two 3 year old fillies.
