Today’s Info 10th April 2015 – Aintree Day 2

Close yesterday with Darwins Fox who ran a huge race to be second at a nice price and Silviniaco Conti went off at the right price in the end and under a super ride had enough to win for us.

The Saint James has to be top of the list for the opener, given miles to make up at Cheltenham under a typical Paul Carberry ride and arrived on the premises at the last to figure in the finish but this trip allows for more time and if ridden closer to the pace by McCoy he could be too good this afternoon. Dell Arca and Pearl Swan head the alternatives but the fav is strong and hopefully good enough.

Glingerburn looks very good so far and is rightly favourite for the next but the price dictates you look elsewhere perhaps and Jolly’s Cracked It could be the way to turn. Ran a massive race over futher at Cheltenham and was a winner until the choke ran low and here is overpriced to continue a good season which proved him to be only just shy of top class. All the field have something to find with the market leader but I think Harry Fry’s charge will get closest if not bridge the gap and is priced for a wager.

I thought Don Cossack was a banker going into the Festival but didn’t get things go to plan and AP has the chance to rectify that today aboard the hugely improved charge of Gordon Elliott’s yard. His form still needs a big win in the UK to stand up to scrutiny perhaps but this is the right race for him and I think he is still the one to beat here. Sire de Grugy looks a big price but the trip is a question mark and is regretably passed on for a punt. Don Cossack can put any remaining doubters away should this go to plan.

Monetaire has to be of interest in the Topham after just failing to reel them in at Cheltenham which didn’t suit any horse trying to do that during the week. He is still well handicapped and looks the most interesting of contenders for this race with Tom surely keen to have him at it in time to rule out a similar scenario. I thought he would be shorter and clear fav but double figures is more than fair and a clear round will see him tough to topple. At prices Wings Of Smoke is one I’ll be having a nibble at, he can be a strong travelling type who goes better with big fields and whilst he is unlikely to be prominent this could suit well off a quick pace and a horse who is overpriced to click and do better for the test.

Alpha Des Obeaux is a lovely horse, lightly raced and loads to come and could be well up to landing the Sefton Novices for a trainer who knows exactly what he is doing with such types. I have to chance him at the prices and hopefully lays a marker down for future endevours which with a bit of luck will be at the very highest level. Ran into Douvan at Punchestown and was beaten comfortably but can do a lot more and decent ground in a good field I expect a big effort.

Monbeg Theatre is one that at rag odds might out run them but has plenty to find on ratings and a blow out last time, another for the book for the future even if today is a stretch, pennies at the prices will do no harm.

Good luck to all today.
