Today’s Info 11th July 2014

Good morning.

Yesterday didn’t go to plan, not sure the two selections that ran at Newmarket were ever in the right places but that may have made no difference as the winner was impressive enough and is on an upgrade. We had a futher non runner and then Oisin Murphy didn’t get what he was after from Angelic Upstart who has to be close to removal from my list, it wasn’t much of a performance even allowing for a less than perfect position.

Starting at Ascot ( 3.40pm )  I’m not too sure why they have plumped for a hood on Glenard but regardless his recent form is solid enough in this context and the trip looks about right for George Baker to get a good solid spin on Charlie Hill’s charge. I thought he would be a force at Newcastle in the Northumberland Plate and he ran a huge race off the front end, only finding a final push beyond him to hit the places at least. I think he has solid claims here and maybe the hood is doing the trick with some of his quirks as not entirely straightforward.

In the later Handicap ( 4.50pm )  you’d have to be interested in Gabbiano returned to Ascot on decent ground and with two runs under the saddle to set him up for a suitable race. The break before them seems to have done no harm as he was very busy last year and has returned looking well but in need of a bit of match practice. Martin Lane is riding really well and in a race that is rather compressed I’m happy with the booking over what must have been tempting to claim a few pounds. I hope there is a bit more to come and if so it should be at this venue under these conditions.

I really like Nakuti for Sylvester Kirk ( 1.40pm Newm ) and with a bit better luck at Epsom she would have gone very close to landing a hot race there. The connections then upped the ante last time and again she ran with lots of credit at a level above her grade. Now in a suitable contest though and although plenty of promising types in this race I am chancing her to outrun the rag prices. Martin Harley is booked and will suit, she just needs a little luck in running that has deserted her this season and then her mark will seem very fair.

Sky Lantern is almost a betting price in the Falmouth and would be my pick of the field at 2.40pm  but I’m happy to watch it only unless she hits 3s or so.

Not sure there is much value at York but I had Joyeuse, Kings Fete and Red Warrior as plays but the prices are tight enough, might work in small e/w multiples but for win purposes a point or two more on each would be nice!

Advice –

Newmarket 1.40

Nakuti 1pt Win and 0.5pt Place – 14/1 General, 16/1 in places

Ascot 3.40

Glenard 1pt Win – 7/1 Lads, Bet365 and Boyles

Ascot 4.50

Gabbiano 0.5pt e/w – 11/1 General, 4 places and 1/4 odds
