Today’s Info 12th July 2014
Could have been a really nice day yesterday but delighted Nakuti won and repaid some faith.
I placed my trust in Luca Cumani to deliver in a hot handicap last weekend and am doing the same with Ayaar who has just made the cut in the Bunbury Cup at Newmarket this afternoon. Frankie Dettori would have got the 4 year old a lot closer in the Hunt Cup for a little bit better luck in running so barring similar issues here they have solid chances of scoring. There is a chance that he may well run best in the future over a mile but all the winning so far to date is at 7f and I expect his form to hold true from Epsom.
It’s a race where you need two on side and at a bigger price it may to take a chance with Loving Spirit who loves the place and goes in a little underestimated due to recent runs lacking his usual consistency. There are valid excuses for that though and this is the right time of year and the right race to catch him at big odds I hope. Also by taking two we will cover the draw with high and low and that is always a good ploy especially with rain around we could see a side with a bias emerge.
If taking a chance with another or two Georgian Bay and Absolutely So were well fancied on their last engagements and have another chance here to go well in a similar contest.
On the York card there is a nice contest at 2.20pm with the John Smiths Silver Cup Stakes and one I think has a bit more to offer in contests like this is Shwaiman for James Fanshawe. Connections tilted a bit high in the Gold Cup although it wasn’t a disgrace to finish where they did in such a good renewal of the Royal Ascot feature.
This time the racing will stand him in good stead back in a winnable race, the 4 year old has matured and settled better this term and has a touch of class that will be needed to win here.
The big sprint is of course of interest at Newmarket, if both Sole Power and Slade Power run that will be fascinating of course but I think with the way the ground is going they may decide to miss the match up and we will know this morning. Of interest in the race would be Aljaamaheer but again the ground is a worry, with that in mind I think it might be worth chancing Astaire for Kevin Ryan.
The three year old will certainly appreciate the likely going, only going down to the more hardy Maarek at York on similar terrain and that was a bit of experience telling in the finish. Only weakened out of the front end then behind Slade Power at Royal Ascot and doesn’t need to find to much to figure now in my opinion. At the prices it is a nice way to play the race and with a bit more improvement likely you have a live ticket in a super contest.
