Today’s Info 12th March 2015 – Cheltenham Day 3

Another tough day at the office but the office is Cheltenham and it’s a four day contract you must sign and the job is only half done!

Activial ran a stormer, Southfield Theatre could well have met the Gold Cup winner 2016 and was mighty in defeat, Nichols Canyon took in perhaps the wrong race and that was a poor decision to side with him over winner Windsor Park of course.

Moving on to today and Don Cossack is a good starting point. His form this season has improved to a level that entitles him to dominate this field in the Ryanair. A shell of a chaser until now and as his trainer reminds all the time is only now really finishing his races that his frame is fully filled and his confidence supremely high. His record of beating a who’s who of the top chasers has to be noted when considering his rivals this afternoon and if he can negotiate a clear passage then he can land a Ryanair Chase and hopefully do it in grand style. Ground should be fine and any rain that may fall would be in favour but he handles decent ground very well now.

Valseur Lido left a lasting impression at Fairyhouse this term and can go well in the opener. It’s a small bet against a red hot and hugely talented stable mate but along with Apache Stronghold I think the Irish have the best form in here and one of the three should be scoring. That’s not a mindblowing statement but I thought he was a little mugged last time, he can battle and travel and will like this ground and with a really strong pace he should get involved.

The Pertemps is a chance I hope for Big Easy to let himself free off a fast pace and on more suitable good ground, something that will hopefully show an improved effort from this hardy type. Been running with huge credit all year and carries the weight for that of course but can do more yet and hard to see him out of the frame with a bit of luck. Brother Brian and Edeymi certainly have sexy profiles and I couldn’t put anyone off playing them but Big Easy is solid enough for a sole shot at the race.

The World Hurdle is a poor renewal although opportunity knocks for the likes of Saphir de Rheu or Un Temps Pour Tout to step forward and of the field they are the only two I could consider getting involved with and probably the latter prefered. Their are doubts though and Zarkandar is an admirable beast who would be a fitting winner in a poor year. I’ll have change on Pipes horse and leave it at that this year.

Monetaire has to be hard to beat in the 4.00 having made a good impression in just a couple of starts and with a lovely mark to work with for a race the trainer knows exactly what he needs and he has an ideal type once more. I’ve looked forward to him running again and hopefully he will stick to the script.

I have to have a small wager on the classy Champion Court too who is on a very dangerous mark if the break and re tune has worked for his trainer who would dearly love to have his star back on A game for this meeting. Travelled fine in recent runs but not seeing it out as he obviously can and at the prices it is worth chancing him enjoying a return here with a handy pilot up top. Others include Burn And Turn and De Boitron who can both outrun their prices under conditions that will suit well.

Tom Taffe has a lovely grip on the finale with Gold Bullet and Heaney and they have different profiles but are hugely interesting for the race. The former is a lovely type, lightly raced and full of potential faced with this kind of task on good ground. Well handicapped for a few starts and with the top pilot booked has to be on side. The latter is a very talented but a little quirky but when right can run well above his current mark. Might have gone close in an Irish National for a more prominent ride and has just run into the back of Foxrock over slightly shorter trip than ideal. If stepping up on that effort looks more than just a second string entry.

It will be hard to let Sixty Something and Benbane Head run without wagers so will certainly have change on them at good prices to stop any cliff jumping late in the afternoon!

Best of luck to us all today and hopefully it’s our time to get a break or two in a finish!
