Today’s Info 12th September 2015

Not sure how Battersea didn’t add to the winners column yesterday, Pallasator did and we roll into a big weekend in Ireland and the UK with a bit of a spring returned to the step. With Battersea another couple of furlongs and he wins well, a slightly luckier trip for pilot Andrea Atzeni and he probably wins well too but Jamie Spencer has arguably never ridden better than right now and he was super yesterday.

Rain is here and here in spades in Ireland – we might get denied the clash of Gleneagles and Golden Horn the two spears of a serious Champion Stakes this evening. The track have done everything to get them there and Aidan O’Brien will no doubt leave it very late to decide. I’d have been with Gleneagles on proper good ground, now happy to watch and enjoy what hopefully is the full field take their chances.

Sanus Per Aquam should take the Champions Juvenile contest at 4.05pm and is backable at 5/2 I expected shorter to be on offer so Bolger’s charge can probably win the race without having to step up on three very good runs to date. Behind what could be a special animal in Deauville last time and there is unlikely to be an equal to that here.

The handicap that follows see’s a talking horse Renetti at the top of the market who is too short now to get involved with, Silwana is a player after a big run last year in this and in good form but Alton Bay back from a break interests me for an each way play. Ran a nothing race at the Curragh at the back end of May after a fair run at Punchestown over hurdles but prior to that was progressive on the level bumping into Rebel Fitz in a conditions race and giving 7lbs with Ted Veale in receipt of buckets of weight behind them in third. Arguably does not have the class but Chris Hayes is a quality booking and will love the hustle of a big field and looks overpriced to show up well.

In the Matron I’ll be throwing change at ultra talented Euro Charline but the ground will not be ideal unless the sun really gives it a burst so probably best to watch and enjoy another scorching contest.

Lightning Spear is the pick of a very nice field for the Boomerang Stakes and again the state of the ground will be key when they line up, should handle it but priced about right and I’d be involved at 4s or so if the market goes that way.

Withernsea is a bet in the finale with Jamie Spencer up for Fahey, will love a bit of cut and has a pot in him on the basis of this term so far. Needs cover in a big field and Spencer will be well aware of that and could not have a more suitable animal for his play it late style. Couldn’t settle last time out but if doing so here expect a late rattle to the line and hopefully goes very close.

Two small darts at the Portland and Suzi’s Connoisseur really missed the chance the last week when Joe Fanning was caught enjoying himself and then was luckless as they got intimidated out of it at Ascot. Not sure this trip is going to help of course but in rare form and fingers crossed they get a chance to compensate that just a week later.

The other is Another Wise Kid under Graham Lee who ran a belter last time in a seriously hot race and holds form well, conditions with a bit of juice no problem and the seven year old has claims again for a bit pot. Amazingly not got lucky enough to pick up such a contest in the past but if getting away well is a decent price to confirm superior form with some of the more fancied market leaders.

Excited to see Lightning Moon back in the Group 2 that follows along with redemption seeking Ivawood, they would be my pair for the race but happy to watch them both with just pennies in play.

The St Leger isn’t the strongest and falling the same weekend as ICW in Ireland not helping now but Fields Of Athenry might be the beneficiary of that and despite having perhaps most to prove looks the right type to step up plenty on a big run in the Ebor under what eventually was a difficult ride from the get go with the draw being muted as the biggest issue. A small bet to beat the battling Bondi Beach and Storm The Stars who gutted it out with each other just a few weeks ago in a hard race.

A quick word for Ayaar who owes us little this term but hasn’t finished the races last few times and the mini break would have been welcome – if back to best looks the one to beat at 4.55 and hopefully can do that.
