Today’s Info 13th September 2014

What a day in store – it was nice to get back amongst the winners with Stormachion yesterday who won in grand style but a few lesser efforts too keep the feet on the ground.

It’s the start of the biggest weekend in Irish Racing for some time in terms of initiative and profile and Irish Champions Weekend is finally here. Congrats to all concerned for the planning and preparation that has allowed for it to happen at Leopardstown and The Curragh – hopefully it will be embraced and no doubt the horses will put on a mammoth show for all.

Australia should win and win well but a great line up for the Champion Stakes considering he could have scared them all off – not the case and he will need to show his best to win and hopefully will do just that for all concerned!

The St Leger at Donny hinges around Kingston Hill, I’m not convinced he will stay but on a class and form angle if he does he will win this. Windshear, highlighted by James Boyle on this website is the dark one and one that will love every inch. Snow Sky beat him the last day but that is no certainty to be confirmed and he is a player. Forever Now and Romsdal are also of interest in the race and along with Kings Fete make for a great contest. I’m skipping it for a proper punt but will be having change on Romsdal to step up a fair bit but he will need to!

The Portland is a corker too, Out Do is one to be with having burst through to land a hot race last time and in the visor looks far more settled and less complicated. Good draw, not harshly treated and should be a good bit to come still he is the main pick. The other is speculative with Seeking Magic who I am still convinced will pop up in just this type of race but is not firing so it is a risky punt. Has the ability and will get circumstances to suit, hopefully comes back to form today but one to keep on the radar regardless.

In the opener Belardo is possibly the horse I am most looking forward to from a punting perspective, I am taken by him and really hope he can put the rivals away today in good style. Obviously Hannon’s runner is a nice one and this does look a match but the recent match practice and I think he will be even better with better ground than the last time in the Denford at Newbury. 3/1 is too big to ignore and fingers crossed he shows what he can do once again today.

Two small bets in the handicaps at Leopardstown are Bayan and Dalkova.  Both solid form chances of course and whilst the former looks a hard one to bottom and keeps running big races the latter is very much on the upward curve. They are difficult puzzles and we will need luck in running but if we get that they look decent wagers.

At Chester the 2.20pm is one I wanted to solve and have come down with Dusky Queen looking to get back to winning ways for Richard Fahey. Jack Garrity takes off a crucial few pounds of course and the run behind Bragging was a good one and hinted to a nice tilt at a race a little lower in grade. They have found a suitable one here and nabbed a good draw so I’d be hopeful of a good run. Mezzotint will go well too but is tricky to catch right and may have left the race behind last time out when unlucky to catch Ocean Tempest in the form they did.

A great day to take it all in and enjoy the best of the action and hopefully a winner or two will keep the day ticking along! Join me on RacingFM for every race of course and best of luck.
