Today’s Info 16th June 2015 – Royal Ascot Day 1

Good afternoon

Well it’s here and what a kick off with Solow, Able Friend and Night Of Thunder set for battle in the opener. Not a race I am going to back in bar a few pennies on Night Of Thunder to keep the prize at home, the raiders are superb but questions over travel, conditions and being right on the day make it a tricky race to wager with confidence. I do think Able Friend might struggle but surely wouldn’t surprise if justifying lofty impressions in HK and so a watching brief in the main.

Round Two has in the price a bit of juice due to lesser proven rivals with unlimited potential but streetwise and ready to rock and the best we have seen looks backable at 5/2. Could not have done more and looks hardy enough to battle if needed I think one of the better priced favourites on the day and hopefully wins. The American challenge is one that worries me most but we find out later if that is right o not and Wesley Ward’s Finnegan is my main concern.

A stronger Kings Stand than last year and Sole Power has to go close despite rising in years, the price is about right though and perhaps some value lies elsewhere but it’s hard to find it with confidence. Steps is a bit of a rogue but entitled to get as closer than the odds suggest with things to suit and whilst he may start slow and finish late that might work to hit the frame and he ran much better last time up. Plenty of ifs about him and it’s a small dart at the price which is too big if it clicks for his running style.

Not opposing Gleneagles to show his class again so it’s on to the Ascot Stakes and Shwaiman whom is more than capable of a huge run under Frankie Dettori. Seems to have enjoyed a spell over hurdles and since swtiching from Fanshawe for who he did well in not ideal races last term. I think the booking is a big plus and on his ideal ground I expect he might be nicely perched for this test. Ran behind Leading Light here last season and whilst out of his grade he does have more to offer now.

The Windsor Castle is a minefield but I am keen on Soapy Aitkin for Clive Cox who impressed me hugely dispatching solid Silver Wings ( who can outrun a big price here too ) at Windsor. He did a lot wrong and was still letting the penny drop but hacked up and looks a special type – there are others in the field of course but I hope he reaches a standard that goes very close this afternoon in the finale.

Good luck to all, it’s a super week ahead.
