Today’s Info 16th May 2015

Good morning.

Dante meeting over and we bagged a winner yesterday. Sadly it was the shortest of the Johnston 4! I thought Drop Out Joe was a little unlucky not to bag a return and Esteaming was a bit of a steamer who just got a bit far back in the early stages and couldn’t get involved isolated a touch on the inside. One to keep in mind having been well supported.

More top class action today and hopefully a winner or two to find. Starting at Newmarket in the 2.15 it is easy to see why Aramist is strongly fancied having won so well at Hamilton and with the yard firing on all cylinders. A repeat of the Hamilton run will probably win this and the only concern I have is the lack of juice in the ground but Aramist acts on decent ground and is in rude health. Will be hard to beat.

The 3.10 at Newbury is a big pot and plenty of likely types but none more so than Plymouth Sound and Azraff. The former surprised plenty last term and looked to have trained on nicely on the run at Sandown but got no luck in running and will really appreciate this test judged on that outing. The trainer places her horses really well and John Fahy is a very decent uncomplicated pilot. Hopefully with a bit of cover from a hold up ride and then luck coming through will be finishing fast. With Azraff the chance is well demonstrated on the last outing when mugged over shorter, will hopefully get rolling here again and is just the type to keep firing in consistent runs and should be competitive, not required to be held up so closer to the pace will suit here if not on the sharp end.

The Lockinge is going to be informative but Night Of Thunder should win if stripping fit and at 5/2 I’d take the chance with a punt. I expect the Guineas winner to be better at 4 and this is a good starting point and the big field is a plus for cover and then he can use the turn of foot. Toormore and Integral look the only real dangers and I expect with a fair crack in running that Night Of Thunder will beat them but the fly in the ointment could be a Ballydoyle charge.

Cougar Mountain was trying to be a sprinter under for O’Brien last year but looks very much a smart horse for further and although the prep run doesn’t suggest a Lockinge would be the next start it was a typical pipe opener for him and this is a horse that we will see a lot more of this term. Ran in G1 company behind Slade and Sole Power after just a maiden win, which was a quick run, but that heap of pace will be a huge asset now racing at what will prove a more suitable trip and as an unknown in a race where I think a place or better is up for grabs as the bigger guns have a first start then a small bet is in order.

At Thirsk I wanted to chance Westwood Hoe under Ben Curtis for Tony Coyle in the 3.40pm who should be all blazing at Thirsk over the mile and will be very much suited to the conditions there. Formerly with Gosden and decent last term the comeback run was encouraging and with that under belt then more resolve off the front end will be hard to peg back.

Have a great afternoon and good luck!
