Today’s Info 17th June 2015 – Royal Ascot Day 2

Good morning.

Yesterday saw little to report for our selections, Soapy Aitkin ran a great race but came up short and whilst you can forgive 20/1 and 50/1 shots running below par the run of Round Two was the harder one to fathom and probably didn’t run anything like himself so hopefully bounces back.

The Jersey has been the race for Ivawood since the Newmarket Guineas and I thought the same about Bossy Guest whom I’ve been a big fan of for some time. Watch the run there and price them up for this and it’s odd then to see them as they are in the market for today. Ivawood was better at two but I’m not sure there is that much between them now whilst I’d take good heed of the bullish nature from Hannon and Hughes this week the price has evaporated in terms of value and Mick Channon’s is still punting fodder. Bossy Guest was a very raw two year old, showed a super turn of foot on return and had filled his frame and then at Newmarket when tilted at the big prize by Channon did not let him down, entitled to come on again and held back since Newmarket for what looks the right race. I hope they pull it off and of course receipt of a few pounds now from Ivawood will not go amiss in a finish.

Not going to try and crack a super tough Queen Mary, and Integral is the right favourite for the Windsor Forest so the Free Eagle return for Dermot Weld is next up for discussion in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes. If you believe the quality of the Champion Stakes run when still entitled to grow up for it and it being run on poor ground then he could well be special on return from another winter and hold them at bay at 3/1 and take a seat at the top here. The Grey Gatsby need to be forgiven a poorer effort than expected at the Curragh but if you do that he should be winning, the run with Solow looks strong and was mixing it with Australia last summer – what price should he be on best efforts even without Moore on top, it would have to be a bit shorter than the 6s or so on offer.

Ectot was sent off 6/1 for the Arc last year yet is only a touch shorter for this and could have loads more to come, and horses like Western Hymn and The Corsican improve and can still offer more at higher level so are interesting too. Further foreign interest in Speilberg and Criterion make for even more dilemma for the punter and apart from suggested as I have the Free Eagle is a touch short and The Grey Gatsby is overpriced then it’s very tricky. I will play both those positions for small money but can’t nail a wager – I am sad not see Chrome line up that would have been class given the razamatazz.

Two darts in the Hunt Cup, Ayaar joined in at the furlong pole last time on seasonal return and could not have been more impressive for Cumani.  A horse we have been with many times and if gets the breaks has not been hit as hard as I expected for that win. Should have been very close in this last year, conditions will suit and at 10/1 is a decent punt once again.

The other is American Hope who got given no chance from the tactics employed at Ascot last time out, bombing along a the front into a headwind and running way below form has only resulted in a pound drop but he goes well here and with a bit of cover and bit more luck than when close at the course twice in the past I think he has more to offer and remains unexposed. Nice price for a second wager.

The Sandringham looks far from the strongest renewal and Osaila might find this ample chance to show the Guineas effort was just a blip on what has been very solid form at Group level since she emerged as a force for the Hannon camp. Pulled hard at Newmarket and didn’t go through with her race but I don’t think the trip is the issue for her it will just be settling in and then coming with a run under Frankie. At double figures in a race not blessed with similar proven types I think she can figure and possibly just prove too good despite top weight.

Best of luck to all hopefully we get a bit and roll into day 3 in slightly better shape, well worth a few small each way acca’s with the runners today given the shapes of the races for punters.
