Today’s Info 19th May 2014
One bet today at Redcar on a quiet Monday although the market already reacting to the selection who runs for Robert Cowell and will be ridden by a tidy pilot Robert Tart taking a handy three pounds of the weight.
Jiroft made a pleasing start to his career in the UK with a good run in the Epsom Dash last June. That was as good as it got for connections with a couple of fleeting and rare better efforts elsewhere and the mention of brittle feet being suggested as the problem for inconsistency. Given a little break after making a horlicks of attempting to find life easier on the all weather terrain and then an encouraging spin at Goodwood a couple of weeks ago give hope that this crack Italian sprinter may now be ready to fire off a more acceptable mark of 87 today.
The start is all important, Tart’s record on the horse is only fair but he has made most use of him from the break when the horse consents and if getting away something like on terms this afternoon is weighted to take a bit of beating. The 10/1 or so on offer overnight was generous and the 8s and 15/2 around now is acceptable but it’s a small bet on an otherwise quiet day.
Look forward to seeing Sadler’s Risk jumping fences in Roscommon which is quite a departure from the previous tasks set for him over hurdles and on the level. Henry De Bromhead of course has hold of the beast now so I’m intrigued to see how this talented 6yo gets on!
Cafe Society goes at Windsor at 8.05pm but is prohibitively priced for one that is a tad costly to follow to date. Has to win a few races this year I am sure but needs plenty to fall right and at those odds I’m only watching the beast.
