Today’s Info 19th September 2015
Ayr Gold Cup day and along with the Silver Cup two of the trickiest races to solve of the year.
The Silver Cup has three of interest for me with George Bowen naturally heading the market after recent exploits and sure to be involved along with Eccleston who’s win last time was due and has only a few more pounds to work and arguably will not be enough to halt him going in again for O’Meara.
At a price Barnet Fair will enjoy this decent ground and Tony Hamilton is booked for a rare hook up with the trainer but one that shows up well when they do. The key as it often is here is the draw and Barnet Fair is the type to not make good use of a handy draw so although low the tactics will probably be forced to sit a little and suffer for a more middling position. Hughesie nearly pulled it off in the consolation Stewards Cup at Goodwood and similar needed here but overpriced if putting in that run and a dart at a price where you could take three in the race such is the competition.
The Gold Cup of course a similar story, Don’t Touch bids to remain unbeaten in a torrid race but he would not surprise anyone if getting the breaks and rattling home again, looked in trouble last time but pulled out more and no one knows what is still left in the tank yet. Rivellino is yet to win on turf but is a super consistent charge for Karl Burke and has claims again to be involved and also Toofi has to be considered. Roger Varian’s runner was second last time from a tardy start but another to show up at Goodwood well and can win here with the first time visor adding sharpness perhaps to the early stages.
At a price I am also including Tanzeel who won well at York and then only ok stepped up behind a classier bunch in the City Of York stakes. The ground went against there and genuine good ground here will see him more competitive and Paul Hanagan is back up top. High draw might not be the place to be but I think there is more to offer and trust Hanagan to find the slot for him.
At Newbury Top Tug is back in trip after running another big race at York last time and surely deserves a pot especially after the debacle at Goodwood. Mark is inching up but will take plenty of beating under the inform Spencer who is perfect to set the task accordingly for the horse in ideal conditions.
Also on the card at Ayr Scottish is a little overlooked after a failed attempt in Deauville, that went wrong but prior to that was excellent at Goodwood and if allowed to bowl along here will be hard to beat. The field has cut up which is no harm and the odds have held up well, fingers crossed it’s a more straightforward run today and I make him the one to beat against the elders.
