Today’s Info 21st August 2014
A little of what might had been yesterday. Basateen pulled like a tantrum throwing child in a supermarket aiming for a sweet counter before you have even got down the veg aisle and Quest For More was excellent but found one too good who ran at rag odds – life can be challenging.
Today at York starts with a rather tricky contest, bar Kool Kompany and Fast Act then most of them have a lot on but big fields equalise things and it might be worth a very small wager on Union Rose at the bottom for Harris and Willie Twiston-Davies. It wouldn’t be the biggest shock in the world if he could put in another big effort. Ran behind Hootenanny of course and then with credit in a G3. A fair bit overpriced but a race to tread lightly in.
Three super fillies in the Lowther – Anthem Alexander most certainly the one I am looking forward to seeing back on track and she would have beaten Tiggy Wiggy further with a little more experience at Royal Ascot. Cursory Glance form is not up to that level in my view and is the weakest of the three at the top of the market. I think without the 64 days off I’d be very keen to have a proper bet on Anthem Alexander but even with that slight doubt I am still getting involved. I expect the 6f and decent ground to be perfect for her and she should be fav.
Short Squeeze is the only punt in the Clipper although the market is well awake to the chances at 8/1. Hugo Palmer’s runner has just been having things fall a little wrong but the mile, the ground and the track all ideal here and Pat Smullen is back for another go after a horrid crack at Ascot. The four year old comes to hand later in the year and the run here last time was just the signal needed to suggest all is well now for an ideal looking contest.
Good luck to Taghrooda in the Oaks, special beast who doesn’t have much to beat today although Volume at prices without has some appeal if you must be having an interest.
The Galtres is open and one I thought I wouldn’t back this term is Waila but she might just have the edge on them here. A hard filly to to put in front at the right time and often travels like there is more to give but the run behind Missunited and also when beaten by a cherry ripe Continuum would probably win this. Arabian Comet form can be reversed and unless it rains plenty conditions will suit Moore’s runner best of the field. She doesn’t seem to run a bad race and this might fall her way at a fair price.
Two small darts at the last and I wouldn’t tell you not too if you split up the stake for a bit of place only money. Nakuti and Royal Rascal are two likely pop ups in the contest. The latter loves this place and could score if willing, has shown signs of a big run lurking and might just respond kindly to Robert Winston taking the mount.
The former is a filly I have expected a nice pot from for Sylvester Kirk. It may well have been when she did win but r4 killed our early morning double figure prices. She has been unlucky a few times in decent fields and will need to get a break here. However the last four runs including the win hint at more under the bonnet, this track and trip will suit well and although I don’t expect it should a bit of rain fall that would only be a help. The mark of 88 leaves a nice amount of room to work with I hope and should she get a break I’d be hopeful.
Another busy day but taking a view in all most of the races means that you stake accordingly of course, I think the middle three wagers should work well together but it’s a tough track and good racing. A little bit of luck always welcome and hopefully we have a bit of value on side.
