Today’s Info 22nd August 2014
We got a reward with Short Squeeze yesterday among some poor efforts – taking chances on prices allows for that. Hugo Palmer’s charge was a perfect ride and a horse ready to win so happy with that to come off. There will be other days for some of our other selections this week, hopefully take the right ones forward!
Today I have a few interests.
Two darts in the same contest at Ffos Lass might seem an odd move with the action elsewhere but Gabbiano and Secondo have to be top of the list at the prices for the 3.30pm sprint there this afternoon. Secondo has lots more to come when it falls right and for George Baker who could change his name to Secondo at the moment looks a nice ride to pick up there. The ground should be quickening up and there are excuses to be made a plenty for the Charlton runner but his yard are going well and I expect him to run them very close. Gabbiano has been on side a few times and is a tricky ride to get right. That job is now with Hayley Turner but the handicap mark, the conditions and the way this race should play out up top mean she has got as good a chance as any in coaxing the run at the right time to figure in the finish. Hopefully they will fight this class 2 contest out between them.
It’s two against the field in the opener at York too for me. Glenard has the hood back and the ability is certainly there. Ran well in the head gear two starts ago and is a bit of a bluffer in running but the bigger the field the better, the cover essential and then to kid the finish out of Charlie Hills runner will be William Buicks instructions, well if they came from me. Ran well behind Pallasator before the customary towel throw but could win this off the mark and is overpriced. The other is Stormachion who has a lively profile for the race and is easily allowed the spin at Goodwood prior to this, a race that the trainer likes to win. Moore of course a huge plus and the form is there to figure at the front end.
I will be backing High Jinx in the stayers contest but whether I can advise all of you to do the same is probably wearing thin. Has won since last seen this side of the water but at short odds in a weaker race. I love him and hope he scores.
With it dry and looking to stay that way then Ertijaal looks the call to land a blow for the younger ones in the City of York stakes. Been running well but without much luck from the skies or the track this term and is overpriced to put it together now for Haggas and Hanagan. Pieces replace blinkers and this trip should be the optimum for the three year old. Must be rain free before post time to show his best I feel.
One small dart at the Nunthorpe is Astaire. This race could easily be won by Sole Power and the price is tempting but Astaire has threatened to step up a level and at this track is worth chancing it will be today. Has run well all term and is too big for a mini wager at the odds in what is an open renewal.
Hugo Palmer took the last on this day twelve months ago with Short Squeeze and has the right type to do so again this term. Munaaser is too short but obvious claims so it is best to play each way with what looks a solid conveyance under Ryan Moore. The win over Buckstay is unlikely to be the top end of the progression and Moore will hopefully have been looking forward to another spin on the charge here.
